SA002 COURSE DETAILS
Underground Safety is a qualification from Smart Awards. The course provides candidates with essential knowledge and understanding of how to identify hazards and risks when working safely on or near the underground network. Please note that the SA002 qualification does not qualify an individual to enter a confined space.

The course covers 2 modules:

  • Gas testing
  • Cover lifting

Candidates will learn about the different types of gases that can be found underground, how to test for them, and the correct procedures to follow if gas is found. They will also learn about the different types of underground covers, how to lift them safely, and the hazards associated with working in the underground network. The SA002 qualification is aimed at anyone who works within the external underground telecoms network, such as telecommunications engineers, cablers, network assessors and surveyors. The SA002 qualification is valid for three years. After this time, learners must complete a refresher course to maintain their qualification. Please note that the SA002 qualification does not qualify an individual to enter a confined space.
