PIA S007: Sub-Duct and Cable Installation

FULL COURSE DETAILS

This assessment will involve a questionnaire to test the delegates knowledge of sub-duct/cable installation in the Openreach underground network and the completion of a "live" installation job to the correct quality standard. This will be completed in a live or simulated situation utilising the current methodology employed by the CP to install their sub-duct and/or cable. This can be mechanised or manual. A CP cable shall be installed in a minimum of 2 duct sections (3 x Joint boxes) containing Openreach network cabling.

Questionnaire and Practical

Content
This assessment will involve a questionnaire to test the Delegate’s knowledge of Underground (UG) cable/sub-duct installation in line with current
Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) Engineering Principles.

Practical
The requirement is to ensure the Delegate has a good working knowledge
of the Openreach network and the safe working practices when carrying out cabling activities. The Delegate will provide a CP fibre cable or sub-duct between a minimum of 3 jointing chambers and restrain and label the cable/sub-duct in line with the requirements laid out in CP10. This will be completed in a live situation or simulated at a Training Centre.

Prerequisites
SA002 - Underground Safety or equivalent.
NRSWA Street works Qualification - Unit 01.

Personal Protective Equipment (Mandatory)
Please note without the correct PPE candidates could be refused onto the event and charges will still apply.

Safety Boots (with a well-defined heel for climbing poles).
Safety Helmet (with 4-point chin strap).
Hi-Visibility Vest – Long Sleeve.
Appropriate Gloves.
Clothing suitable for inclement weather (Advised).
Eye Shields.
